My cockpit alum is in pretty sad shape. What is the best/easiest way to strip off the actory finish? Once stripped can it be refinished with clear coat? If not, what is prefered? Thanks, Bob

I just sanded off the anodizing, stated with 80 grit and ended up with 500 and poished, looks great, just need to keep polished now and again, if it gets scratched, just sand out!

Quite a few folks do the same thing. However, it is not factory original, concours correct, if this is important. As you say, it's certainly a lot easier to maintain.

I have very good experience by doing as described above, BUT finally giving the trim away to a shop who does anodizing. They come back as new!!
