Cobra Classic seats

Has anybody put Cobra or Corbeau seats in a british car, particularly a Spiftire? My seats are shot and will need complete rebulding. I've seem these seats for sale for about $200 each. But then you have to buy the sliders etc.

It's difficult to find a replacement seat that fits properly in a Spitfire/GT6. The Miata seat, for all its praises, simply does not fit well. It sits higher in the cockpit (which is already very small) and restricts leg and foot room. It caused my leg to wedge uncomfortably against the tunnel cover. It also restricted foot room on the accelerator pedal, making long trips very uncomfortable. I went to the extreme of cutting the rear of the Miata seat rail and rewelding it back on to shorten the rail and make more room, and it still wasn't enough.

Some folks love them, most of whom are under 6' tall.

Please carefully consider restoring your stock Spit seats. It's more expensive, but in the long run, far better than wedging a foreign seat in your Spit. The original seats, when carefully restored, are quite comfy. And of course, they fit the car perfectly!

I just bit the bullet last week and ordered the upholstery and foam to rebuild the seats in my Spitfire. I did the same a few years ago with the seats in my MGBGT and was pleasantly surprised at how comfortable they turned out.

The foams and upholstery for the Spitfire are expensive but you only have to do it once.

I considered the Corbra Classic seats for my 4A but purchased the Corbeau Classics instead complete with headrests. Much better looking and very vintage. I had a set of GT6 MKI seats in it and the Corbeaus are very similar and very light. Think I paid less than the reuphostery kit for 2 seats delivered. Easy install but made for smaller bottomed people..

I put the Corbuea Clubmans in my 76 midget, I didnt use any slide rails or anything I just picked where I wanted them, and I bolted them down, they were great cheap, and really light. Then it allows you to put 5 point harnesses in there, I had RCI racing 4 point harnesses I think, I picked them up on ebay about 4 yrs ago for like 300 for the whole set, seats and harnesses. Good Luck. Lane /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/patriot.gif

does anyone have a picture of the corbeau classic seats

I replaced the old Paddy Hopkirk Alpines in my TR4 with Corbeau Classics last spring. I sat too high so I disassembled the lower cushion and reduced the thickness by about 50%. I purchased the optional inflatable lumbar support. PeterK is correct in that wide "buckets" do not fit these seats. I am 5'11" at 200lb. and since I am well over 50 the weight is settling downward on my anatomy; I barely fit. The seats are much more comfortable than what they replaced, the lumbar support really does help. The Classics look like they belong in the car, unlike the modern looking Miata seats.

Thanks for the input. It seems the seats in my car have already been done once and very poorly. But one of you may be right. It would be cheaper to re-do them correctly.
