I've got a 1275 and 948 cc engine sitting on the floor of the garage, both long on-going projects to put Datsun 5 speeds into bug-eyes.
Both pressure plates are completely different, with the 948 cc being 'shallower'. One of the springs on it also looks a bit distorted.
Can anyone provide a summary of the different types of pressure plates that were installed in Spridgets over the years, as I may have one or two extras buried in the attic.
Thanks
Doug

All the clutches are different, as are the friction disc diameters and throw out bearings. They are not interchangeable. The 948 is 6.25" diameter, the 1098 is 7.25 and has a much taller (and larger diameter) pressure plate and the 1275 is 6.5" diameter. The flywheels are all different too (there are four or five different flywheels)

If you plan to switch over to a Datsun 5 speed, your best bet is to not use any of the standard clutches and make the Datsun clutch the one you use with whatever size engine you install. I convert the flywheels (any of them) to accept the 7.125" Datsun clutch.

The Datsun clutch is a diaphragm type, which engage smoother than spring clutches, and they are less expensive than the Moss replacements. They also use a high quality roller type throw out bearing rather than the carbon types normally used on the originals.

You can see the flywheel conversion and conversion kits here.

I just bought the Datsun 210 clutch kit from O'Reilly's and it was $89.
Pressure plate & cover, throwout bearing, disc, pilot tool and maybe pilot bushing - haven't checked yet.
Hard to beat the price.

Rick,

Which brand/who makes it?

Those are good. It's what I have been using lately. They are higher priced here (SF Bay Area), but what isn't?!?

Nice looking parts Gerard. Maybe I should get some to hang on the wall here.

Sachs makes good quality parts, I prefer to use Sachs parts in the European cars since it’s a German company and for the Japanese applications I prefer to use Exedy/Daikin. Japanese parts for Japanese cars; Your Exedy/Daikin clutch kit part number is 06-001, you want go wrong with that! Be sure to machine your flywheel.

I use the Daikin also, but I find people are reluctant to spend the extra for Daikin and they are more difficult too find here for some reason. The suppliers I use also do not carry them.

It’s not right in your back yard but pretty close and they are cheaper $75.00 here's the EBay Item number 200452037292 and its Exedy/Daikin, Good luck!
