Clutch Release Bearing

I just got this from a leading supplier. It is a release bearing for a BJ8 and the two screws are giving me concern, having previously only seen the carbon bonded to the casting. Removing the screws, the carbon is still bonded in place. Anyone else noticed this difference from original design, and what issues do you see, if any ? image.jpgimage.jpg
Thanks, Bob

Perhaps some bearings have become unbonded and this is their fix. Maybe the supplier knows why they were added. My biggest worry would be if the screws came adrift. Perhaps a bit of Loctite on each.

Strange. I've heard of batches of bearings that wear extremely quickly; don't think the screws would help prevent that (doesn't look like a 'professional' job, either). I'd be at least a little concerned that drilling into the graphite core could weaken it.
