clutch pressure plate hatched

Shirley and I were on vacation a couple weeks ago in our TR6 and our clutch went out a couple hundred miles from home. Shirley was driving and she was beating herself up because she felt she broke the car. So I gave her a stick, just kidding. I tried to convince her it was just something that would have happened no matter who was driving.

So we continued on the trip with no clutch. I did not want to work on it with the hot weather last week so I finally pulled the tranny last evening. This morning after doing the Sudoko and Kukuro puzzles and mowing the lawn I pulled the fork assembly apart and it was all in perfect condition. Needed to remove it anyway so I can replace the tranny front cover.

Then I removed the pressure plate and found the ring that retains the spring blades had come off the posts. Not happy, only 15,000 miles and this happens. Now to find a more dependable pressure plate, hopefully.
 
BTW - there is a good side to the story. The part supplier where I purchased the clutch kit is standing behind the product. I have been impressed with this supplier in the past and my faith in them has been renewed. I will name them and tell the story when this has been resolved.
 
Glad to hear that they stood behind it Tom. This story could have been a lot worse if more things let go on the pressure plate.
 
I thought you would be interested in this Paul because I believe you have the same clutch parts that I have.

I am going to go down and visit Peter and pick up some other parts later this afternoon. We are going to discuss what pressure plate might be best to put back in.

BTW - the taper pin fix I did came apart very easily and the pins look like new.

Well, the supplier was BPNW and Like Paul Harvey said, "Here is the rest of the story."

I e-mailed BPNW explaining what happened and a concern with another part. Within a half hour Leighton at British Parts Northwest called and wanted to know what he could do to make things right.

As it turned out it was a great experience for myself and I believe Leighton also. We discussed a few concerns I have had about part quality and different brands on the market. It turns out that BPNW is very concerned with customer feedback. Because they are a mail-order parts house their customers do not have a chance to see the product before ordering. Add to that the fact that unless their customers take the time to share their product experiences BPNW has no way of improving their product offerings.

Leighton offered to replace the pressure plate and refund the other item. I asked if I could call back after consulting with another person on the subject and he said that was fine with him.

After the consulting session I called Leighton back and we talked at length about the pressure plate and the other part in question. It was a great chance for both of us to learn and the conversation was one of offering and looking for solutions.

Leighton offered to replace the pressure plate and also the clutch disk just to be sure it is OK. He has already shipped the new parts with a return authorization including the other part. He also paid shipping both ways.

I have ordered many parts from BPNW and have never had a less than pleasant experience. I recommend them without reservation.
 
Tom, while you're in there you might be interested in a new (at least to me) roller bearing clutch mechanism from Good Parts.
I put a little more details on your 6-pack thread.
