clutch pedal travel

My BJ8 clutch pedal pushes untill it hits the carpet. Is it suppose to hit the carpet? Is there a way to adjust the travel, shorter, so it will not hit?

Also, the pedal at rest, is about an inch back from lining up with the break and gas pedal. How do I bring it forward to line up?

There is nothing to stop the pedal from hitting the carpet. However, the clutch should disengage before that point is reached.---Keoke

Ausmhly, the pedal should be reasonably in line and there could be a few causes. Has the PO bent the pedal metal? to suit himself, unlikely but possible. Is the master cylinder the correct one as the postion of the other end of the pedal is dependant on the rod in the master cylinder, is it the correct length rod, are the spacers in position behind the flange of the master cylinder where it bolts to the bulkhead? Let us know the outcome
Best of luck

Last summer my BJ8 had the master cylinder go out and during the rebuild I noticed that the pivot point where the push rod attached to the pedal was badly worn resulting in the hole becoming a slot. In fact it looked like someone had previously tried to weld a fix --- unsucessfully. My fix was to drill out the "slot" and put a brass bushing in (I just found one at a hardward store). The end result is that I have 1/3 the play I had before and everything is working fine.
