Clutch not engaging

Ok
here we go again

I just had a 5 speed Ford type 9 tranny installed into my TR6.
after instalation we blead the hyd. system and tried to put it in gear and all I hit was refusal.

So I changed out the Clutch master all lines and the slave cyld. in order to get more throw on the actual pressure plate. ( I should mention that the new clucth hyd. seems to be working very well, nice stiff clutch pedal with good return)

Still didnt work, so I installed a adjustable rod for the slave cyld. and I maxed out the throw. I'm getting a little better than a inch of throw, and it still wont engage /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonod.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonod.gif

any thoughts? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/england.gif

any ideas?

John at Quantum suggested the Thrust washers may have fallen out of place when the rear main seal was replaced....Hmmm?

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nopity.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/england.gif

so it was not the Thrust washers /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonod.gif

I have a oversized slave cyld. coming today /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif
Hopefully that will give the clutch even more throw and solve the problem. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/england.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/patriot.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/england.gif

any other suggestions???? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cryin.gif

See my PM. I go back to the idea that this becomes John Esposito's problem, not yours. I think I would have the car parked at his garage as we speak. You are both in Conn, right?

Bill

Hello Kodanja,

you already have more throw (1" +) than is necessary, but an oversize slave cylinder will reduce that (Assuming larger bore)
Can you select gears with the engine not running? I note that you say the pedal feels firm so that appears OK. It can be possible to over throw a clutch so try easing into gear with varying amounts of clutch pedal depression. I take it you don't have a high idle speed also? The other possibility is that the clutch centre plate is fitted back to front?

Alec

yes I can select the gears w/o the car running.

I also tried to push the car w/o it running in gear with the pedal down. "nodda"

the Idle is at about 900 rpm's

what do you mean by the center plate being fitted back to front? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I tried pushing the pedal in various pressures with the car running too............... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonod.gif

Hello Kodanja,

the centre plate will go on either way but as the hub with the take up springs are on one side, this should face to the gearbox. If it is reversed the hub will foul the flywheel and could just lock everything up.

Hooray! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/savewave.gif

Well its finally fixed, come to find out it was a warped pressure plate. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Once we replaced the plate everything works fine, (FINALLY)

thanx everyone for there input it was very helpfull in narrowing down the problems.

Now maybe we could drive it some before it gets cold again /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thirsty.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thirsty.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thirsty.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/patriot.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/england.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/patriot.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thirsty.gif

I'm still waiting to see that green monster cross the Rhode Island line. Maybe for Day of Triumph in Brookline on July 30th?

theres a great idea!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cowboy.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/england.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/patriot.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/england.gif

Great, we'll see you there!! I'm usually found at the hot dog or sausage vendors, my wife stays at the car.
