Clutch / Gearbox issue

I have a 1973 MG Midget 1275 Damask Red called Rosa.
I recently replaced the gearbox after having 3rd gear synchro issues. Everything went back in without issue, except for the cursing that went on trying to get the gearbox back into the tunnel and connected to the drive shaft. For a month I had no issues until I felt this noise when I engaged the clutch. When I went to take a look at it and do some diagnosis, it was not apparent until about 10 minutes of testing. When engaging the clutch the gearbox changes without issue, but there is a noice and pressure engaging and disengating the clutch. I believe it is one side of the release bearing that is coming lose. Is there a way you can fix this with the gearbox in. I noticed the bung hole that I can remove and have access to or am I going to have to bite the bullet and remove engine and gearbox again.
Thanks,
Allan

:iagree: ...only if you have very tiny hands :nonod:

... there is a clip (or sometimes spring) that needs to be manipulated. IF the clip has not fallen off, and IF you got super lucky with a long thin screwdriver or maybe a coat hanger bent with a hook on the end, you might be able to get it back in place, but very doubtful. It'll also depend on which side came off.

Clip #9 or spring #8

To tell you the truth, when I work at the BMC dealer I took a bet that this mechanic couldn’t change a clutch in less then two hours. I lost that bet, he did it in an hour and half. That included driving in to the work bay and driving out the back door!! Sorry for your trouble!!

I could change a VW engine in 27 minutes too (drive in,change, drive out) but I had had some practice!

Thanks for the feed back. I did check and its not the side accessible of course.
I guess practice will help, though hadn't planned on taking it out again so soon.
Thanks,
Allan
