T-Series Clutch bushing

I scanned the "Search" feature, but could not find any reference to this question.

A fellow MGB owner, (well, it used to be an MGB) stopped over at the house last night, but I had gone to work. My wife was home and he went and took a gander at our '71. We have had it on the road since Monday and it is running fantastic so far. When he depressed the clutch, he told my wife that the clutch bushing or bearing,(not sure which she said) was shot since the clutch pedal was going on an angle. I had noticed no problem with it, but with having been driven one only for a week, I would not know what a problem would appear like regarding that.
If I can't reach him tomorow, I would like to be able to have an idea of what he meant. Shifting is perfect, smooth. I just can't picture what he means.
Also.. how full should the clutch resorvoir be? Mine is about an inch from the top of the lid screwdown.

Fluid level: right to the top of the can, 1/4" below the threaded "neck".... clutch "bushing"?? From the description it soulds like he means the clutch PEDAL bushing. Under the pedal box cover. Both the brake and clutch pedals are held in place with a long bolt and a series of bushes and washers. Check your manual for the proper "sequence". You may find you've got a worn "everything" in there: clevis pins, pedal "eyes," the cylinder actuating rods AND the main bushings.
 
what doc says. Though, I've learned some lessons over the past few months or so, and I now religiously (darn near obsessively) keep an eye on those fluid levels. The clutch reservior I keep filled to the bottom of the threads that the cap screws onto, and the same for the brake fluid reservior.

If the pedal moves at an angle, then that would mean that the pivot point is either worn or the pin/bolt that it pivots on is not seated all the way.

Either way, it should be a relatively easy fix... if you have hands the size of an gnat you might be able to do the work with the pedal box in place. Other wise, it might be easier to remove the box to do the work. Myself, I'm a glutton for punishment, I'd fiddle and curse my way to getting it done with it still in the car, but that's just me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
 
You're not alone in that,I tend to find the awkward way to fix anything first.Then when I've skinned my knuckles,thrown tools and parts all over the floor I realise there is easier ways.But there not as much "fun". /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif

Thanks. Sounds like it is along the same line as the spacer that wasn't there for the brake pedal, in the box. I will open it up and have a look.
What kind of fluid do I top up the clutch reservoir with?

Castrol LMA brake fluid for the clutch top up. The bushing in the pedal is an easy change. It's just bronze. I used suitably sized sockets and a c clamp to bush my old one out and put a new one in.
 
Yup. A bench vise is a better "press" than a C-clamp (not as much "chasing your tail") but whatever works!
