Clutch and Brake Pedals

Okay, in doing some work with inside my TR6, I removed the pedal box and have noticed that the springs that return the clutch and brake pedals are not "in-line" with the direction of the pedals travel. It looks like the PO has the clutch and brake pedals swapped around. Can anyone confirm which is which? Thanks, Daniel

Hi Folks,

Can anyone confirm whether the clutch or brake pedal has the additional "arm"?

Many thanks,
Daniel

Dan,

Sorry that I missed this thread. I'll try to get under the dash when I get back home tomorrow night and take a picture for you if none are posted by then.

Daniel
my brake pedal has the 'additional' arm. Here is a pic from the Moss catalogue showing the brake and clutch pedal.
Hope this helps.
Regards
Craig

Hi Craig,

thanks for the help and picture. Do your return springs line up with the pedals' travel pretty much inline? Or are they skewed?

Thanks,
Daniel

The only time they are aligned is when they are in the picture. They are always shewed, and noisy.

Daniel
pretty much inline with travel.

Craig

Hey Guys, Thanks for all of the help so far. Why I compare my pedals to the ones in the picture above, My brake pedal has the little arm on the other side (towards the clutch pedal) and the extra tab on the clutch pedal in the picture is actually on my brake pedal.

Do you know if these are from a RHD car?

My pedals match the picture exactly, mine is obviously a RHD setup. Maybe Brosky can shed some light on a LHD setup and if it is different to mine. Do you have a problem with your pedals and how they function or are you just checking?
Regards
Craig

With the pedals installed as shown in the above picture, the return spring for the brake pedal interferes with the tang that holds the brake light switch.

The next time someone is taking a look at that part of their TR6, I'd really appreciate a quick picture of the pedal box on a LHS car.

Thanks

I have the exact same condition on my TR-250. When I replaced the brake servo and MC, I decided to add new springs to the pedals, and for the life of me couldn't see how to get a spring to fit between the hole for it on the brake pedal and the spot where it clips on to the pedal box. There wasn't one there already (but the car has been through a couple of hands, so I can't shed any light on what should or shouldn't be there). I've simply continued running without a spring. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/confused.gif

Bill, I was thinking about doing the same thing, but I read somewhere on this site, that even the slightest pressure on the hyraulic system will be continually transmitted to the clutch and/or brakes. I'm assuming that this also goes for a pedal without any return spring force.

I'm almost tempted to just fabricate custom tangs on the pedal box just to get the return springs to be inline with the pedals' direction of travel.

No spring on the brake pedal. Just the clutchy one.

DNK, Thanks for the picture! I noticed that your clutch pedal has the "extra tab" on it. In the Moss catalog picture, it's the brake pedal with this tab. Interesting. I'd really like to figure out how the brake pedal return spring was intended to be installed...

Anyway, I think I'll set up my pedal box like yours because this configuration seems to be the best for lining up the pedal arms in the same plane of travel with both the clutch and brake rods.

As a side note, it is interesting that the design of these pedals is such that either pedal will fit into either side of the pedal box...now days, in mistake-proofing, designs usually only allow installation in configuration (the intended one) and eliminate any chances of swapping similar components...

Thanks again for the picture.

I don't remember if the brake ever had a spring on it. Now I did rebuild this set up so if I did it backwards someone let me know
