TR4/4A Cluster gear removal TR4 syncro box

I can move the cluster gear set upwards out of the box about an inch and the back end hits something with a resounding metal clank. Nelson Riedel suggests that removing the rear thrust washer should give enough clearance to remove the gears. It has, so far, resisted my attempts at removal. Going to take a lunch break and think on it. Maybe I will get some inspiration. Will work on the thrust washer when I get back.

In the meantine if any of you have any thoughts I would appreciated them.

Answered my own question. After some lunch and watching the finish of the movie "The Eagle Has Landed". I went back to the shop and discovered that the long nose pliers I was using had no teeth in the front of the long nose! Got another pair and it slid right out as indicated by Mr. Riedel. Love it when it all works right. Now it's off to the car wash one more time.

Cheers, Tinkerman
