HAPPY CANADA DAY TO ALL !!!!!!!
This is somthing I noticed a while ago, but paid no attention to:
'78 TR7 Coupe,
When I go over a large bump, or small pothole, I hear a noise which sounds like it is comming from behind the drivers side rear piller. At first I thought I had somthing in the trunk that was rattling around, but there is nothing in there except the jack and bar, which are secured.
Anyone help me identify this noise? Maybe it is somthing minor, but I guess I should address it.
Thanks /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/canpatriot.GIF /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/canpatriot.GIF /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/canpatriot.GIF /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Aloha,

Happy Canada Day to the great white North!

I agree with Steve, the noise is most likely related to the shock absorber. I don't know what type of shock the TR7 uses, but is quite common for the older type oil filled shocks used on TR3 & 4 to work loose over time. This has happened to me and it results in that "clunk" sound you describe. The linkage bushings maybe worn, loose or the shocks are loose.

Safety Fast,
Dave

Check the shocks as others have mentioned, but also check the rubber pads the rear springs seat into. The springs can/will rattle around if they are worn through.

Check the rubber bump stops on the ends of the lower trailing links of the rear suspension and right behind the top spring mount.

Basicly, make sure all the rubber bits are there. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Thanks for the agenda, all. I will get under there next day off. Maybe I will change the oil too while I am down there. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/canpatriot.GIF
