I'm quite a ways from redoing my seats, but I've started to look into what my options are. I've got the original black vinyl seats, which are extremely uncomfortable (hot and sweaty) in the summer heat here. I'm considering a switch to leather, but was also wondering about using cloth inserts for the seating surfaces.

Anyone tried this?
 
In an open car, that might be bad...they'll get wet & then dry rot...sun will dry them out...think I'd go w/vinyl or leather & a good tonneau
 
Maybe make some removable cloth covers to slip over your existing seats.
 
I might try the covers at some point -- I'm quite a ways from doing this, just looking for some opinions.

I'm not too worried about rain, as I don't plan to take Tunebug out if it's wet out there. He's deserved his dry garage.
 
terry cloth covers my wife made worked well in Hawaii.
 
My car, being a '79, has very period accurate faux sheep skin seat covers. Everybody loves them.
 
And that works also.
 
Several people have put Miata (or similar) seats in Midgets, as well. Not period-corect of course, but more supportive, and a wider range of fabrics.
 
I'll keep the original seats, not that they're particularly comfy, but they work and I like the look. I like the idea of some simple seat covers for now. I'll have to keep my eyes open over the winter.

In southern California, Newport Beach area, there's a manufacturer of seat covers. Goes by the name of Wet Okole.

Designed for climbing into your car with wet swimsuit on board, they are made out of a neoprene rubber like material similar to the stuff used in wet suits.

Recommend them I do.
 
but then don't you also need a crown air freshener? - where would you put it?
