Cleaning oil/grease out of white paint

I think the previous owners may have never waxed my white mini. Sooo... when working on her this weekend, we got some grease/oil on the fenders. When trying to get it out, we washed it, used a clay bar and then went to cleaning wax (meguairs). While improved, there is definitely some remaining finger prints and smudges.

My boyfriend recommended that I order some Lusso Revitalizing Creme and along the same lines, I found Collinite Sapphire Prewax Cleaner.

Does anyone have experience with either of these items or have recommendations for something else I can try?

Thanks!
Melissa

Hey Melissa,

Probably just needs a little stronger cleaning than the Cleaner/Wax is meant for. (Or, maybe it just needs another round of the Cleaner/Wax.)

If the DPO never maintained the finish it's probably oxidized and porous. If that’s the case you may also need to remove the top layer of dead paint to get out the crud that’s stuck in it.

I haven’t tried either cleaner you mentioned so I can’t comment on them.

I’d try some Meguiar’s ScratchX, which works well and is easily available over the counter.

Whichever you choose to try, remember that a cleaner isn’t a wipe-on, wipe-off product. You’ll need to work it a bit to remove the defects. Use a foam, microfiber, or 100% cotton terry applicator or cloth. Work it in well and wipe it off before it dries.

When you’re done with the cleaner and the finish is clean and clear it will also be unprotected so be sure to wax it afterward.

Yeah, the white paint on my B is pretty old, neglected, and starting to oxidize. I find that when I get grease stains on my car the only things that'll take them out completely is a 'rubbing compound'.

I had an old Nissan 240 years ago with white paint that seemed to have the same problem. There seemed to be a bit of dirt and grime permanently etched into the paint. No amount of washing/waxing seemed to work. Until....

I broke out a bottle of Fantastic and a roll of paper towels. Went over the whole car with it, rewaxed it, and it turned out great. Got all the grime out.
