Cleaning Instrument Faces

Does anyone have any tips on cleaning instrument faces? I took the glass off my speedometer because it was very dirty and tried to clean the face up with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol. I got the numbers and the needle to look nice and white, but I can't get the black to look nice and black. It looks good while wet, but then dries dirty and faded. Would a small amount of interior cleaner such as back to black do the trick on painted metal?

Back to Black will not look good in a month or so when applied to painted metal. Perhaps Pledge for Electronics?
