Thanks again , do you happen to know the part number or name of tool ? Having hard time finding it at the Roadster factoryWhen you go to use this tool ,position the circle clip so it spreads between the splines
Take 2 flat screw drivers and put them between 3rd and second gear and slowly push the clip up and off
There is also a tool to put the circle back on
Roaster factory has that tool

Thanks for the info and I have ordered one from TRF . Thanks again, DaveGood chioce David, Phil shipped one out to the UK for me for which i am extremely grateful and as suggested .i would also recommend the circlip fitting tool which i think the Roadster Factory may still have some.. it prevents over stretching of the circlip.. I have seen a few GT6 and TR gear boxes where the clip has fracturedand where it looks like its been damaged while fitting
cheers
Steve
Received tool fits good. ThanksCls314
It's in the blue book under tools
Hi Dave. I was about to buy that tool from TRF back in Dec. and saw it is now NLS. Did you want to sell your tool now that you are finished?Received tool fits good. Thanks
Bought one from phil6 works great , tried to get install tool from roadster factory told me they hadn't sold one since 1986 , no luckThis is the third gear circlip removal tool for the older non synchro 1st transmissions. The picture is of one I borrowed from a local club member. It works great and I'd love to have one. Will pay fair price.

Not sure about selling it let me think about itHi Dave. I was about to buy that tool from TRF back in Dec. and saw it is now NLS. Did you want to sell your tool now that you are finished?![]()
Oh, I believe you bought the removal tool. I was looking for the replace tool. I supposedly have a removal tool coming from England. In the meanwhile I was actually able to remove the clip using good old paint can pry tools - has perfect hook to get under the clip. Has to be narrow enough to fit between the splines though (not all are...but a little grinding should fix that) I plan to attempt to make a replace clip tool - I just bought some steel piping (1.25 ID. and 1.25 OD to slide into the larger one) and the biggest issue will be to make a tapered plug. I think I cut cut slices in the pipe, bend inward, and then weld. That way the clip slides on the tapered pipe, I take the larger pipe to drive the clip up the tapered pips and onto the splines. Exactly like the original tool. It would be great to find a tapered pipe and avoid making one. Exhaust reducers may work. But I'll try to make one first. Not sure about selling it let me think about it
