Chrome Valve Cover on 3000???

Hate to ask a novice question, but we have a 1960 3000 Austin-Healey and it has a later model BJ8 67 engine which is equipped with a chrome valve cover. Was this a factory option or just something people liked to add later on to spice up the engine compartment?

Thanks
Chris

Some pervious owner had it chromed....It rolled off the Assembly line painted Green same as the engine block.

Thanks for the reply! That is what i suspected. I guess I'll start looking for a cover that isn't chrome plated. Perhaps someone would like to trade?

It almost certainly is an after market addition, however interestingly the Donald Healey Motor Company's Options List in 1958 did include a 'Chromed Rocker Cover' as well as a lot of other chromed bits for the American market.

Interestingly enough, I have a '67 BJ* with both a chromed valve cover and hood prop rod. I have pictures taken by the first owner that she sent to the eventual 2nd owner when she was selling it (she owned in from new to 1999) and they show the chromed items on the car, which make me think that there is the possibility they came on the car.

As a follow-up, I talked to the lady who originally bought my car and kept it for 33 years, and she advised that she had the valve cover and hood prop rod chromed because the paint was coming off and she didn't like that at all!

Hi Chris, just in case you don't like Marvins valve cover, I also have one I'll swap. I'll pay postage for mine you pay for yours.
