Chrome Plating Update...

A short time ago, there were several comparisons of chrome platers.

Today I picked up my windshield frame (four (4) pieces consisting of the top, bottom and both sides) and grab handle for the dashboard.

While not absolutely perfect, I am satisfied with the results. A concours level showcar may have higher standards than my quasi-racecar, but I doubt more than just a few people will ever notice the difference.

All that was previously said about pot-metal holds true in this case. Upon close examination, the handle shows microscopic pits.

All the brass based bits look 99% perfect.

The cost? Two hundred dollars (even).

If anyone has an extra (or damaged) windshield frame, I'm looking for another set of the side pieces. I don't need the top, bottom or aluminum pillars. Thanks!

Re: Chrome Plating Update...

Just wanted to say Hi Randy. Cleaned up the side curtains they look "fabulous", well, good enough. Adding the correct screws, (I used stainless) and dome nuts seemed to add a certain neat patina to the completed curtains. Now I hate to just put them away and hope I'll never need them.

That particular pair of sidescreens has spent most of their life hanging on a nail in the garage. No point in changing now!

I'm glad they cleaned up okay for you, you hate to pay top dollar for something that you don't ever want to use!

Re: Chrome Plating Update...

Just a quick question about storing them (Side Curtains). Since I don't have the proper storage bag, were they stored in the trunk of the car in the bag with the brackets installed? I hate to think of stopping along the highway and getting a screwdriver out, and wrench, to mount side curtains.

I used to leave them together (mounts affixed to the frames) and carry them either in the trunk or behind the seats. I never had the bag for them either.

I'm sure that any "boat canvas" place could whip you up a pouch with a division in it and a fold over flap to tote them around in...
