:yesnod: Yupper, packing it all away!
Told the relatives,
that they have been here
long enough, time to go, ga buy, see ya, ta ta
Told the wife I don't want to see one thing resembling
the holiday's left on a book case, fireplace, cabinet
door, mirror, lampshade (unless I am dancing with it on
my head).
Good by, Christmas, I will start all over again after I
mail thee ACLU my Christmas card next year.

Can't say that I blame you, Dave.

However, I sure wish we could return to observing the 12 days of Christmas. Culture has completely reversed the whole thing by starting around Halloween.

I refused to listen to the local radio station that started playing Christmas songs 24/7 on Thanksgiving Day - a station I normally listen to. Not a one to be heard since Christmas Day, though.

Same here, Mickey..... Some stores have Christmas stuff out in August, and we have a radio station here that does the 23/7 Christmas music from Thanksgiving as well. I switch over as soon as they start that, don't listen again until the week before. We don't take our decorations down until 12th Night

Gee, Mickey, it's like I have a twin (except that I don't have any of those cool collars  )!

We had the same thing with a least one local station that started Christmas music 24/7 before Veterans Day! Sure enough, day after Christmas it was right back to KC and the Sunshine Band and all the other wonderful memories of the 1970s.

I grew up in a house where the tree went up 12/24 and came down 1/6 (or very shortly thereafter)....

Our tree's still up and lit. Only one on the block. :frown:

We'll be observing Twelfth Night.

Then it's on to Mardi Gras!

When us kids went to bed on Christmas eve, there was only a bare tree standing in the living room. Christmas morning the tree was decorated and presents were everywhere. I never could figure how Santa had time to decorate that tree and deliver all those gifts. The folks always reminded us just what Christmas was about and why gifts are given. The wife and I followed the same tradition with our kids. What a wonderful feeling watching childrens faces on Christmas morning.

And,then they grew up! :frown:

That's what I'm talkin' 'bout, Paul!

And in the spirit of the season, and 'cuz...

Maybe I'm out of tune with the younger set, but why is it Collage seems to change the kids thinking in the way they were brought up? Our boys, good boys and very proud of them, kinda changed their attitude about old time traditions after graduating. But, happy to say, were a very close family, so I guess some of our teachings sunk in deeper than others. PJ

They'll surprise you. The good stuff sticks.

We were always the odd family growing up -- I suppose since my dad's in the same line of work as Mickey it's not too surprising. Tree went up on Christmas eve, really made the arrival of Christmas seem special. Even back then we were the strange ones, most of my friends had their Christmas stuff up after Thanksgiving.

I recently explained to a coworker that the 12 days of Christmas were *after* Christmas day. He had no idea.

Most don't, much less what Twelfth Night is.

BONFIRE on the bar pits!
