Christmas Driving

Several years ago, I was driving my problematic TR6 during the Christmas shopping season. I pulled up to a red lght to hear a terrible clatter coming from the car.
Very frustrated, I put my ear to the floor but couldn't quite detect the origin of the noise.
Bringing my head back above window level, I spotted the Salvation Army volunteer ringing that annoying bell.
One of the few smiles I ever got out of that car.

Tha's funny! We're so attuned to the cars it's hard to grasp there is a possibility the "odd noise" could be coming from SOMETHING else. I'll pull up to an intersection and hear some "clattering"... then add some RPM's to mine just to make certain it's "the other guy's" engine makin' the racket.

On the contrary... we simply know which odd noises are "normal" for our cars.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

ya know.... my ZS flapper recently started flapping again. When it happened I thought I was losing a bearing in the engine or maybe one of the rockers were getting ready to fly through the hood. It'd been so long since I last heard the flapper make noise (i'd pinned it to always draw cool air with a chunk of fuel line) that I'd forgotten what it sounded like. Ah well. I think i'm gonna have to find some of that self adhering felt I saw someone mention using to silence their flapper.

Another of those "Be one with the horse" things!

A friend and I pulled the universals on a 57 Corvette cause of a strange noise only on acceleration. Didn't help. Later we found a metal bottle/can opener (remember those) in the glove box that was hitting some other metal.
