Hello all,

During my engine rebuild, I got my carbs rebuilt, and it all works fine. When I read my Triumph TR6 literature, I see that the choke had two "clicks"; a halfway setting, and a full-out setting, with a rest position in-between. However, mine just goes out and back with no clicks, and it takes a lot of effort. Is there an adjustment to this mechanism?
 
Mine doesn't click either.
 
Mine does on the one car but not the other. I assume it's internal to the cable but can't tell you how. Do know that I like the clicks much better.

On the TR3s & 4s it seems that some repros do not have the click -- but the originals certainly did. They click at each stop and are released by turning the knob a quarter-turn.

On mine... the shaft that connects to the cable has a couple of notches on the left side. These engage some spring-thingy inside the housing that mounts to the dash.
 
I bought a replacement cable for my 69 TR6 it has the half way stop. 1/4 turn to lock either full choke or partial. I can't remember where for sure I bought it though, probably BPNW.

When I replaced my cable (TRF cable 2004), I no longer had the clicks. But then I no longer had a broken cable either!

Before installing the cable, I put it in a vise on my workbench, letting the two cable ends drop to the floor I pulled the knob away from being bottomed out and put a few squirts of 3 in One oil down between the outer and inner cables and let it sit overnight. Worked it back and forth before installing and it has worked like a charm ever since.

I don't want to insult you with this question, but I have to ask it anyhow. You do give it light throttle when pulling out or pushing in the choke cable? If so, I apologize, but I've heard no a lot of times to that question.

You bring up a good point because it would be easy to use the wrong procedure until someone points out the correct procedure. So............

I've always used full choke to start and immediately switched to half choke(or there abouts)when she fires and runs. I try to ease the choke off as quickly as possible to avoid running too rich.

Are you saying that you should lightly touch the throttle strictly to bring the idle down??

No, what I'm saying is that you should always depress the pedal about 1/4 of the way down whenever you engage (pull out) or disengage (push in) the chokes.

That will allow the cables to work freely with no tension against them from the linkages being tight.

Your start up procedure is correct.
 
Actually, Brosky, that is not one of my practices; I will look into it. Thanks for the advice, everyone.
