Choke handle question

Why did they put it on the same side as the ignition?
Did they expect it to stay open by itself? I don't have two right arms.

:(

Well Klutz, You should be able to pull out the enrichment knob,(Choke), when you turn it to the right, it should lock wherever you stop it. If it dosen't, then you need to replace the cable. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif PJ

Tell me about it....My wifes MGA has the same problem, I ordered a new choke cable but haven't put it in yet....But the rad is finally ready so she's back on the road......soon

No, it doesn't catch, but it would have been a lot easier to put it on the left. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif

Why? You don't use them at the same time! You need to set the choke BEFORE you turn the ignition switch.

Its right over the ignition for a reason - pull it out & turn to right to lock it in open position...turn key to start engine - as engine begins to warm, turn cable to left, push in a bit, turn to right to lock in place....the cable is an integral part of the ignition...if yours doesn't lock in place when pulled out, simple replace the entire cable.

Like the new one I have had sitting on my workbench for almost 6 months?
It took me so long to set the choke properly in first place, I dread replacing it.
Hummm... Mary's car... She can learn I suppose. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Replacing the cable shouldn't upset the choke adjustment at all. The only "adjustment" in replacing the cable is getting the play in the cable right. You want the smallest amount possible without the cable having any tension when fully released.
