Choke Cable Route

What is the correct route for the choke cable under the dash? Installed a new one, but just kind of made up the route as we went along. The old one seemed to slide thru a sort of a clip on the passenger side of the firewall then thru one of the holes in the firewall - not sure which one, 'cause couldn't see what was going on, just did it by feel. Not sure that was the correct route, either, because the cable seemed to have been cut - it was about 8 inches shorter than the replacement!!?? Sure is a cute knob, though - has a little fan on it!

"passenger side of firewall"...PO did that...almost runs straight out the firewall to the carbs

Thanks, Tony. That's pretty much where we've got it - right in line with the brake pedal thru the firwewall and straight to the carburetors. But sometimes it takes two hands to pull it out, others it slides easily, even tho we put a little grease on it before sliding it back into it's casing and there are no kinks or sharp bends anywhere along it's length - very perplexing!!

You may find this to be a stupid question, if so I'll be available for whipping after 5PM, but: On the "hard" part of the cable at the handle there's a relief cut for the "locking" spring... some times there's a poorly machined notch, i.e. machine swarf or a shallow in the groove there. May be worth a look.

Thats what you get for fiddling with them funny little cars HealeyGal. But DR-E's suggestion should clear up the problem.---Keoke- /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Thanks DrE and Keoke - will have a look at it at the next MG "repair session" - may be a week or two - tomorrow and the next day are "check-out-the-progress-on-the-Healey" days!

Whats going on wid the Healey Sharon?.---Keoke

She's finally realized where her fate lies....

Well, Keoke, getting real close to re-assembly, hopefully by the new year. In the meantime, yes Tony, a test drive of the MGB yesterday was very "energizing!" With the Healey not having a hard or soft top installed, I think we're going to keep the hardtop on the "B," so we'll have a car for every season and be prepared in case winter ever shows up here. Besides, riding with the hardtop gives the car a comfy, cozy feel - kinda neat!

Let yourself go, young Jedi, embrace the dark side - feel its power!

Oh nooooooooooooooooooooo..........I'm going to be in big trouble if my Healey finds out I've ventured over to the MG Forum or went cruising down the highway in the B!
