Choke bracket chromed?

I'm almost done rebuilding the carbs with full SU overhaul kits, teflon spindle bushes and Grose jets.

Could somebody please tell me if the bracket, stud, collar and nut that hold the choke cable outer on an early BN4 is meant to be chrome plated? In the pic below they are in the middle between the carbs with a small paint brush stuck in where the choke cable goes to stop the clamping parts falling out.

What finish if not chromed?

Does anyone have a pair of original early type air cleaners for sale? Mine are aftermarket and don't have a breather connection.

Cheers,

Chroming may cause damage to the size and strength of some metals. Buff and polish will make it shine. I do not believe if any of this stuff was ever meant to be shinny. You want shine, Check Ausmhly (Roger) photos but where sun-glasses. Bling and clean! Very impressive. When he's at a show the rest of us don't even need to bother opening the bonnet.

While I haven't quite gotten to the BN4 carbs yet, I pretty sure that the bracket supplied on this early Longbridge engine is a zinc-type plating. I'd call it cadmium plated, but that usually brings an image of being gold-yellow in color.

No promises, but I'll see if I can dig out the brackets and get a picture of them; pretty full plate the next few days (before heading down to New Orleans...).

Randy's spot on with the finish description. I had a complete set for sale on our AHCO web site for 2 years. Just sold a few months back.

Randy,
Are my kingpins on that plate?

The choke bracket on the HUndred should be black.

 Whodah thought it use black chrome---Keoke

Thanks kindly for the info guys.

I'm wondering now who the phantom chromer PO was as a number of odd things on the car were chromed including the choke bracket.

What about the carb heat shield? That is chromed too but not very well, looks like chrome straight on the steel as it has surface rusted quite a bit.

Cheers,
Andy.
