When I rebuilt my CD175 carburetors, i used the "master rebuild kit" from Moss because it included everything including new throttle shafts. i downloaded as many guides as possible including the Stromberg manual. I also relied upon the Bently and Haynes manuals for guidance. After I completed the job, I had a difficult time cold starting the engine. Starting fluid was required to get that first start going. i checked everything including timing, distributor, fuel pump pressure, fuel filter, air cleaner and fresh plugs and a few other things I'm sure I am forgetting. The problem was in the choke. Mechanically it seemed to work so the problem had to be internal. I dissembled it and checked the small disc with the holes and slot. The disc was installed properly. Finally, I examined the disc that the perforated disc sits on. This disc has a channel cut in it. In my case, I assembled the channel upside down (smooth side facing outward). Nothing of this disc is mentioned in any of the publications I was using. I flipped the disc over to allow the channel to face upwards with the perforated disc on top and reassembled the chokes. Now everything works normally. I only wish this disc position was mentioned in greater detail in the manuals. Hope this info helps with someone out there having choke problems.
