Checking B's tranny oil

PAUL161 said:
I made a tool with a small "T" top and a hook on the bottom to pull the dip stick up. Putting it back in is no problem. I also use a small hand operated pump to add oil if needed. Being double jointed is also a help.

Ingenious! I think I may bend an old tire plug T handle for this purpose!

I did end up destroyng the gasket/filter taking it off, got a new one in the mail today. Any reason why the drain plugs on the tranny and the differential will only go about half way back in? Both plugs came out with just a little extra persuasion, drained the fluids, but when I went to put the plugs back in, both would only go about half way and i can't budge them any furher.
(as long as you guys keep answering my stupid questions I'll keep asking.)

Yup. Taper'd.

If they're tight & there's no fluid loss, don't worry about it.

I've already got them out and have drained the fluid. The problem is I'm trying to put the plugs back in and can't get them past about half way. I'm afraid I'll snap it off or strip the threads. I suppose they don't have to be back flush with the differenial as long as they are tight and don't leak? Is there a recommended torque setting?

My post above yours....
