All,

If this were closer, I'd be driving there now (although it's probably already gone).

Cheap TR3 overdrive on Craigslist

Will someone who lives near Allentown buy it for me and store it until I can pick it up? I'll give you $50.

Scott

I live in Allentown. Still want it?

If he doesn't, I do!

I emailed the seller, asked if it was still available and offered $100 (ad said OBO).

Based on his reply, that offer must have touched a nerve.

I responded asking if it was still available at the asking price. Nothing yet.

Actually I had shot him a mail earlier and he said he had someone local willing to buy it this weekend but he'd let me know if it didn't work out since it was going to be a 5+ hour drive for me (1 way).

At that price, I was surprised that it wasn't gone already.

But he's not selling it you now is he Scott ;-)

If it's usable it is worth 1000+ so nailing it for $500 is still a deal.

Tom,

You are right although I think that TR3 overdrives with non-syncro first would have a lower value. For me though, it's a question of recognizing what I need versus what I want.

Assuming they are all rebuildable, I have an overdrive transmission for each of my 3 cars plus a couple of part overdrive units so I don't really *need* it but at $125 I *want* it.

Yep, the seller e-mailed me Saturday night that everything he had for sale had been sold to someone local.

A little more back story, I was actually the first one to call on that trans.

The seller and I chatted a bit Thursday evening, I told him I would take the trans just let me know when. He said ok, "I will email directions", and I sent a follow up email stating I will take the trans and look forward to meeting.

Saturday morning, I miss a call from him and then 15 minutes later he calls again which I pick up, saying he tried to call me an "hour ago" and the trans is already sold with someone on the way.

I was like WTF? I was waiting for him to let me know how to get there, I spouted a few choice words.... He basically said it was mine and must have back pedaled to someone, he didn't even say that he got more than asking price.

The kicker is when I first talked to him he was telling me how he chopped a smallmouth Tr3 up into three pieces trying fit a V8, grafted a Subara hood onto the original, and just scrapped the block.

Class act...

I feel your pain, Tim - it happens. A pretty cheap TR250 showed up a while ago in my area. I was the first caller and had a great conversation with the owner. Then within the day I think he found he had priced things too low. It went downhill from there. Welcome to the forum!

Tim, don't feel bad. I once met a seller who sold an MGA for $300 to another guy after he agreed to sell to me. :madder:
