I have a "Healey in the box" kit that was once my uncles some 35 years ago. He started the restoration with his son back in early 74 and never got past taking it apart. I purchased it from him after I got out of the Navy in 75 and it still sits. Needless to say, I have boxes ontop of boxes of Healey parts, and very nice chassis frame. I am now retired and have nothing to loose except the opportunity to put this buitiful car together if I don't jump on it before I get too old. As I remember, and by looking at most of the parts, the car is in relativly good shape. The first major item is to make sure the frame is prepaired properly. Can anybody provide a good recommendation for an Austin Healey Chassis expert around central Ohio? I know there are many frame experts, but I prefer to start with folks that know the Austin Healeys. I have access to a car haller, so I can go however far needed to find the right person. I would just like to start looking somewhere close by and go from there. To my knowledge, this car has never been recked, or pleged by much rust. I believe it is worth putting it together correctly.

Thanks for any help or comments you can provide.

Not to short cut restoration but inspect the front suspension where the A arms mount. If that is not cracked or twisted and not rusty, clean, paint it (frame) up, then install new rubber. Your going to be spending your children's inheritance on it but it will be fun.

Ohio has four local Healey chapters. I'd check with your local club officers to get guidance to local craftsmen. Newark is in the Mid Ohio region. Let me know if you want me to send you the contact info for the club president.

I have a shop in Hudson Ohio and am a member of the North East Ohio AHC,
( as well as president of )catering to British sports cars post war to 1980, with Healey being my top marque. My personal driver is a 1959 BN6.

You stated that "the first major item is to make sure the frame is prepaired properly". Does that mean it needs the out rockers and or outriggers repaired. Is the shuttle still intact or removed. Or does the frame it just need inspected to make sure it is solid?

I'm always happy to talk with a fellow AH enthusiast to assist in how to proceed in a way that's best for the car and the owner.

We meet as a club the second Thursday of the month ( Dec 11th ) at Quaker Steak and Lube in Independence Ohio at 6pm. It is a great way to meet fellow Healy enthusiasts first hand.

Call if you think I can help.

Join your local club, participate, you will be rewarded with vast knowledge and a great sense of satisfaction and a beautiful car in the garage.

Thanks to one and all for your comments and suggestions. As far as spending my childrens inheritance, I can't agree more. But if done properly, the end result will be worth far more than anything I could "invest" into a coffee can in the back yard or anyother "deals" offered. Besides, all the kids love the Healeys.

Thanks again, Magyar
