Watching "Chasing Shackleton" tonight - a PBS special I own on DVD. A group of modern day explorers attempt to re-trace Shackleton's trip to rescue his men, stranded on Elephant Island over 100 years ago. He and five men took a small life boat, equipped with makeshift sails, from Elephant Island, 800 miles across some of the most trecherous ocean on Earth to South Georgia Island where there was a small whaling village. This expedition attempts to re-trace the trip using exactly the same clothing and equipment.

We'll have to get that DVD! The wife and I are both history buffs. Thanks for mentioning it. PJ

That is quite a show. Altho' they take a lot of short cuts, the teams do a good job of detailing the massive problems Shackleton dealt with in the 1914-1917 expedition.

What a horror, but with a heroic conclusion.

I saw that when it came out, pretty good program overall but I agree with Tom that they take a lot of short cuts.
