Changing the Wheel axle Housing

This is brought over from the polishing aluminum wheels thread. What all is entitled in changing out the wheel axle housing to fit the wheels(280zx) between the fenders.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
And is it even worth the the effort to put these wheels under the B? I was really looking forward to using this style. I have the wheels, but they are down in FLA right now. So I cant really tell how much room I will need to keep the tires from rubbing. Please read the above mentioned thread if you need any explanation to why I might need to do this.

I didnt ask or I forgot, did you have the steel or wire wheel housing on there? Apparently there is a difference.
Tell me they were steel?

It is an original steel wheel car. I will try to remember to take a look at it this afternoon. It is in the stable of past-their-prime MG's.

I thought of an idea. I think I will just get the saw zaw out and take out the fender wells. Then they'll fit for sure...

I guess you MIGHT not need to swap axle housings depending on your rear springs. If you look again at the pic of my car posted under the polishing thread, you can see how my rear tires are tucked slightly into the wheel housing. Maybe my leaf springs are just tired, but I do like how it looks. Anyway, if you have new springs and the rear is sitting higher, you might get away with just bolting the wheels on as-is. Doesn't cost anything to try! I do know of a rubber-bumper car that ran these wheels with the wider housing and had no problems due to the higher ride height.

If you do want to swap housings, you should evaluate the condition of your springs, bushings, brake hose and u-bolts. If the u-bolts that hold the housing to the springs are really rusty, you might snap them off when you try to undo the nuts. If your rear suspension is pretty old you might just get new bushings, u-bolts and a brake hose to freshen everything up. You probably will also need a new e-brake cable as your existing one will be too long. You need to unbolt the driveshaft, at least the front spring hangers, the u-bolts, emergency brake and brake hose.

Another thing, in order to use the datsun wheels you either need to install metric wheel lugs in your axles (so you can use datsun metric lug nuts), or have some special washers machined so that the wheels mount safely. As you can see, it isn't just a matter of bolting up and going, but I like the wheels. They get a lot of good feedback just because they're different.

Ryan, thanks for all the helpful info. I have tired springs too, so that might be something I should replace anyways, and just do a step by step, need by need process.
Anyways, they do look good on your car and the other one I saw them on and they will eventially look good on mine too. So, I will just work it out with the help of your provided info. I know I wanted something different, and although I do like the minilites that everyone uses, I dont want to have my car look like the next MGB at the show.
