Danny Thompson beat his Dad's 406.6 in Challenger I with half the engines.

Amazing that the basis for this vehicle is the original body and chassis which sat for 40 years.

A terrific accomplishment (even if it's not a British sports car ;) )

There is a great article on the history of this car ~HERE~

Yeah...I know the history. I saw the original bonnet, spare wheels, engines LaSalle transmissions in Mickey's garage in El Monte before they moved to Palos Verdes. He built the II after the 406.6 in I, then sold it....wasn't gonna do LSR runs anymore...then bought it back.
I offered to drive out to Bonneville and push him off in my 1950 F-1, but I guess they used something else.
I've been watching the rebuild of this car for what, three years now?
Modern engines and such, pretty amazing two can do better now that four did in Challenger I.
Danny is looking for even more...and once he sorts it out, he probably will.

At least he didn't do a 360 at speed with 2.5 like Mickey did first outing with Challenger I.

Funny, too, the upgrades that had to be done to meet new safety standards,,like the explosive 'chute deployment. Probably there due to Afron's escapade.
