Chain Saws & Ladders

Great Pumpkin - R.I.P

We're at the farm in Tennessee this week working outside while the weather's nice, & today I decided to trim all the trees in the front yard of the old house - these are 40+ year old trees that haven't had 1 limb cut off them for as long as I can remember. They're beautiful & tall but keep sunlight from hitting the yard except in dapples.

My chain saw was zinging today & the pile of limbs I was tossing over the electric fence into the field was growing (& there were a couple of big bushes I whacked to the ground that all the cows liked eating!). I was actually enjoying myself!

Anyway, I'm up a ladder tackling a huge limb. I knew it was going to fall away from me so I wasn't concerned about being so high. What I didn't think about was what would happen when it hit the ground.

It bounced!! Right back into my chest - 8" of hickory tree limb sent me flying!

I threw that chain saw as far as I could & yelled for Jerri to look out because I didn't know where she was. Knocked the breath out of me & left me dizzy & weak for a few minutes. My left shoulder took the brunt of the fall so I'll be sore tomorrow.

Chain saw's not hurt!

Good. I'd hate to see a good saw ruined.

Well, my chain saw & I got some good firewood out of that limb...hehehe....payback!

Geez chain saw and ladder in the same heading is never a good mix I was kind of hisatant to even look at the post glad your not seriously hurt Becareful out there!

Since I have seen a few injuries involving hedge trimmers and ladders, I too avoided perusing this post for a bit. Glad to hear there was not blood loss or broken bones involved anyway. Hope the pain and soreness is alleviated quickly.

When I saw the title, all I could think of was "hold my beer, and watch this!"

Glad you're okay, Tony!

Thanks, guys....as of this afternoon it is: Tree - 0; Tony - 1!

Where it once stood is now only a stump about 1" above the ground! Cut the top 30' out at about 8' off the ground...it fell exactly where it should've! Chopped some of it into firewood & tossed the rest into the burn pile.....then took out the bottom 8'....got some nice big chunks that will make neat seats around the fire pit - my big butt fits perfectly on them!

Going home tomorrow.

The only thing I can think to say is if you have to go up a ladder with a running chainsaw and then have to throw it, be sure to wear an all white hockey goalie mask.....

If you are using a pole saw, wear a hard hat. Yet another thing I learned the hard way. My skin has a lot of character.
