I have rarely seen as many cool cars in one weekend as this weekend. Just had to share as my wife could care less. Saw 5 Ferraris, got passed by an Aston Martin Vanquish - I had just hung up the phone and the radio was off - I was travelling at 130 kmph & heard this thing 100 yards behind me - what agorgeous car, what a gorgeous sound!

Sunday I saw all kinds of 60's chevy's 3 very sweet rat rods, even a 70's hearse with flames, a couple of late 50's Caddy's, 56 Chev, the list goes on 2 old time dragsters (on trailers) - even saw a 60's S-Type jag heading down the 401 with sunroof wide open.

I think everyone is cherishing the last nice weekends - great! (thanks for letting me share)
 
Yeah, lots of street rods and convertibles (top down) around here. And our student parking lot has lots of motorcycles too.
I think you're right.....everyone is getting their last few weeks of "hobby driving" in before it gets too cold.
 
I'm guessing up in your guy's neck of the woods folks are trying to get in as much time in their cars as possible with the pending winter approaching.

Me? I get to see all sorts of beauties whenever I take HWY 73 the toll road through the Laguna Hill’s on my weekly drive up to LA. Saw a few Maserati Quattroportes as well as a Coupe (GrandSport I think?) & a Spider. Three Ferraris - one F430 & two Spiders. The usual Porsches can always be seen but I was foaming at the mouth when I saw couple of Porsche GT3s last week. But the best had to be that Black Vanquish the other day.

All I can say is there must be a heck of a lot of money in them there hills. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif
 
So Sat. I was heading out to fill the tank on the SP; friend in a GT3 passes on the other side of the median and in about 15 sec's is alongside me. On the way back from the gas place I'm waiting to make a left and another red SP goes by and waves. There are probably 600 SP's in the US at most (599 of them red), and one goes by me waving. Figure those odds.

And in all the pics that have been posted of the Saturday morning LA car gatherings, I've yet to spot a SP.
 
I live in an area of Calgary where there's lots of money... During the summer months newer exotic cars are all over the place, to the point where they aren't all that special to me anymore... I almost think that most of the folks who own them here aren't "true" enthuiasts, just simply trying to show off how rich they are...

I just wish that older exotics (1950's to 1970's) were more common up here, I don't even think there are very many exotics of that era up here, let alone seen on the road.

I did have a good chat with one local collector recently who has quite a nice collection of very interesting cars and is also very down to earth (Fiat 8V coachbuilt, AMC AMX 1960's concept cars, plus probably more interesting stuff), I tried to coax him a little /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif but he told me that he tries to keep the collection as private as he can. He also lamented the lack of classic exotic cars here in Calgary, I just wish I could afford the trips down to Monterey and such places to see the truly special cars I never see... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cryin.gif

His collection? As a photographer I'd love to see those cars, but I can respect the man too, just wish he'd let me at them, dang it! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

You sound like me - I'd love to see some people's
car collections,just because I appreciate them for
their 'historic" value - not how much they're worth.
Some people get to see these collections just because they've got an expensive car,or a lot of money,while some of us of a "more modest lifestyle" aren't invited.
Then again,there are exceptions (like Ross Bremer,-
- who let me view his impressive collection in Florida).

Why? What's the fun of owning them if you can't share them? Anybody who wants to come to the GarageMahal can see all my cars anytime I'm home!

Well, DUH! Does he ever think he might be part of the problem? If others knew a support system existed up there, others might go out & buy a car or two...best thing he could do for the hobby is allow people to see his cars, talk with people, help them find cars, etc.
 
When did they make 73 a toll road? In 66 I used to commute from Pendleton to Riverside every weekend in my XK120. That was one of my favorite over the hill rides. Didn't cost anything but gas and time then.

I totally agree with you, but then I don't have all the money these kind of folks have... I suspect that some of them have been burned by gold diggers so to speak as Fred by all accounts seems to be a very friendly and down to earth guy...

I know that 73 has been a toll road for at least 10 years now that I’ve been using it. But if I had to guess it’s probably been a toll road since the last major renovation. If 66 was the last time you saw it, I doubt you’d recognize the corridor today.
