I have been trying to figure out these two cars:

The one Grace Kelly drives in "To Catch a Thief"

and

the convertible which almost looks like an Aston Martin DB2 in "The Birds".

Anyone know what those cars are?

Thanks

Bruce

The Birds.
It is an Aston Martin DB2/4 MK1 DHC;chassis number LML 944 and it is owned by a lady in the USA.I had until recently a saloon version.

"To Catch a Thief" is much larger than a Sunbeam Alpine. The movie is 1955 and Alpines were built 1959 onwards. Or were there Alpines of a completely different body style before the model I know? According to the website you listed, the same model car is in "The Remains of the Day" which does look like it.

The website you listed above is great!! I have book marked it.

Forget my post above. Found it. Internet is a great thing.

Looks like it is called a Sunbeam Alpine Sports bullt 1953 to 1955

Bruce, Interesting site. I have never heard it referred to with the addition of "sports". Wonder if that was in the USA?
A friend of mine has just bought one and it has just arrived in France from Mexico. Haven't seen it yet.
Will post a pic later.

Love to see it.

The Birds was on again today so I really looked over that car. Obviously a DB2 as I got better views of it.

Bruce,sorry to be pedantic, but it is a DB2/4 MK1 not a DB2. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonono.gif

Awesome site. My wife calls it "automotive porn". THe movies I watch because of the cars or car chase scene. I just saw the French Connection for the first time in years. The Lincoln is definately one of the stars of that movie...
