They only made about 33 250GTO's and there was quite a bit of variation in the details of each of them. For example, the three gill slits on the sides of the fenders only showed up on about six of the cars. The rest had two. it's also a RHD, which narrows the field down even further to about three. Then there's the fact that there are no louver's on the hood, and there are those rectanglular driving lights that flank the grill opening. That narrows it down to car #3767GT...which is currently owned by Anthony Bamford in England. He owns two of these cars. I therefore suspected that this might not be a real GTO. I went on the Ferrari chat forum to add a post concerning this car, but someone had already inquired whether this GTO was real.
The one word answer that came back was NO! ANd believe me, these guys know there stuff. They don't talk car models, they talk serial numbers.
And Kenny, it really doesn't have anything to do with the door fit. These car bodies were all pounded out of aluminium with hammers. They were built as race cars, and fit and finish wasn't a priority. Whether or not it is a "kit", I don't know. But there have been a few Ferrari 250 GTE's rebodied as GTO's. So, it's one or the other.
BTW, that Daytona coupe I'm sure is a repro. Only six of those were made and they might be more valueble then original 250GTO's...although I'd rather have the Ferrari.
