So yesterday I pulled the BMW out, dusted it off, and got it back in ridable shape. Seemed to be running pretty well considering it is 40 years old, has around 150k miles (who really knows), and is unrestored.

So a friend and I took a ride today over a local pass. Nice ride over, had a snack, then on the ride up to the pass on the way back the bike quit as I was trying to pass a slower car. Off to the road side, won't restart. Checked basics (fuel in tank, etc) and still no go so I used the bit of cell service available to call AAA -- this is why I have the 100 mile towing plan.

Home safely now, but all the toys are broken. New exhaust system for the B is in transit, Tunebug still has the intake/exhaust leak to track down, and now the bike is dead.

I think I'll take up knitting. :wall:

Knowing my luck lately...
 
Buy a Model "A" Ford.
NO hydraulics, electronics, synchros, and you can start it with a crank.

I just added the 100 mile tow to my AAA plan......we're on the road a lot and just <span style="text-decoration: underline">one</span> time needed would be well worth it.

I've used it twice now since I got into the old car/bike thing a few years ago. Very handy. The tow for the bike was 50 miles, and it was nice to not be worried about a huge bill.
 
Drew, you need an old Land Cruiser. A little bailing wire and
some duct tape will usually get 'em home.

I do miss my old FJ40 something fierce. Someday...

OK I have to say it - a Model A would have been good on account a Drew was a little Crank-ee I suspect - so he could have started it. :jester:

Old Land Cruisers come with a hand crank too.
It's always fun to kid the Jeep crowd with "Oh yeah...well let's see you do this." Long rod stows under the seat
and it goes in from the front. The crank has one of those "kick out" claw nuts on front.
It ain't easy but when all else fails....

Funniest thing is that the BMW, though the youngest of my little fleet, is also the simplest. Mechanical drum brakes, kick start in addition to the electric start, very simple electrics, points, etc.

I can't imagine trying to hand crank that 4 liter Land Cruiser motor. Geesh.
