Carpeting Tonneau Area Question MK II

Perhaps a dumb question, but does the carpeting in the tonneau area behind the rear seats go over or under the drain hoses

The pictures I have seen of this area typically shows the hoses covered by the carpet, but it seems weird to cover the hoses with carpet (and also results in a lumpy appearance.

Can anyone advise me on this?

Yep Jersey, that may seem weird alright, but that is the way they did it. Put the hose underneath the carpet.I think what they had in mind was averting any wear on the plastic windows when the hood was stowed.--Fwiw-Keoke--

On the Mk 2 BJ7 series, the middle rear drain hose was hidden under the carpet. If you have a late BJ7 with drain tubes in the rear corners as well, these (as per BJ8 practice) were not covered.
The hidden middle hose will have glue applied to both the hose and the immediate area of metal each side of the hose to it makes a neat, tight covering over the hose.

Keoke is right, as it also makes for a better look than seeing the hose.

I ended up removing the center hose. I plugged the center hole in the drain channel after. My window was pressed so hard against it when stowed, it started getting impressions of the rug.

FWIW, check your fit, as you may have the same situation as I did.
