carpet

I got my carpet kit from Moss Motors 4 years ago. The kit was excellent, it was complete and all the pieces were cut and fit properly. The ends were all nicely finished. they still look good today.

Adam,

I put in an old kit from Moss that came with the car in a box in the trunk. I was not real happy with one piece (the back deck...one ear was too short) but the rest was OK. I would recommend that you get a better quality kit...one tat has a preformed or molded piece for the tunnel...they fit much nicer.

There is an old tread about this from a year ago when I did mine and got some good tips (esp the pictoral from Kim)that you should read. A few extras you might like to consider is painting the tub with POR15 or a bed-liner material and extra insulation padding.

There is also a good guide in MGExperience that I found useful. Make a drawing of the interior hardware as you remove it...that will make the holes easier to find when you reinstall it. And one more tip... 3M adhesive is the way to go too.

good luck

Bruce

Adam,
I replaced the carpet in my MGTF with the Moss kit. It is OK for the price. When I replaced the carpet in my 1980 Brooklands Green MGB I wanted a color other than black (light tan). I ordered the Magic Carpet kit from The Roadster Factory. It is the best carpet I have ever seen. The fit is great, the tranny tunnel is moulded and intalls like dream. The install instructions are adequate. Just keep all of the old carpet and match up with the new carpet.

when you ordered from the roadster factory you had a choice of binding colors for the light tan. the colors they offered me was beige and autumn leaf. what did you pick and do you have any pictures?

Adam, I purchased, from The Roadster Factory, the light tan carpet with the beige binding and jute backing.

I only use the Moss carpet kits, but part of that is because I am a distributor.
There are two grades to use; deluxe and OE. The OE is cheaper, and has a pile that most people prefer. The deluxe is more of a "plastic hairs" kind of carpet, rather than loops.
Last year, the OE kits were coming with sill covers and floormats, even though they were advertised as not having those parts.
Both kits have molded tunnels and wheel well pieces for the B

I got the OE carpet kit that Moss sells, and am very happy with it. As Chris says, it came with the sill covers and floor pieces, even though it says it doesn't. And the molded tranny carpet piece is a must.

Also, I highly recommend installing heatshield insulation under the carpet, while you're at it. Makes a big difference both in softening the sound and keeping the cockpit cooler in the summer. (Especially from the firewall and tranny tunnel.)

and don't just buy the insulation Moss sells. The water heater insulation at home repair stores works and there are several sound deadening options around that are better and more effective that paying the big bucks for what the big suppliers sell. Theirs isn't bad, just a bit pricey. Don't ask how I learned that.
