TR2/3/3A Carpet Heatshield Install Question

I'll be taking advantage of the upcoming 3-day weekend to install new carpets and side panels in my '58 TR3A. I'll be using heatshield material for the undercarpet. Any thoughts on whether to install it foil side up vs. foil side down?

Thanks, Bill

Bill - what material are you using?

I think the consensus has been the "foil" side goes toward the heat source.

I'm using the water heater stuff from Home Depot that someone mentioned on another thread a few months ago. I also seem to remember someone suggesting foil side up so that it acts as a moisture barrier to help keep the insulation dry. That seems to make sense to me. OTOH, placing it foil side down to block the heat makes sense to me too. Life is a quandary.

I'd install it whatever way is cosmetically best - I'm not convinced foil side up or foil side down would make much difference in the thermal protection here. For one thing, when you wrap a water heater it is foil side out and you are trying to keep heat inside the heater.

All things equal, I'm guessing foil side up would make it a little tidier.
