Need help, I have a 1967 BJ8, I bought a carpet set from Austin Healey Spares. The set included a price that covers the radial arm control box, it has a piece of strap and vinyl attached. How do I install this piece? Any information or pictures would greatly be appreciated.

You can see three sides of the box from the interior of the car. The top facing side, the forward facing side and the inside facing side. The carpet piece that covers the box is positioned so the strap in on the inside facing side. The end of the strap that is sewn into the carpet will be at the top edge. The loose end of the strap hangs down. You will screw a male snap into the car through the carpet and attach a female snap to the loose end of the strap. The female snap will attach to the male snap to keep the vinyl strap secured when not in use.

What is the purpose of those straps anyway ?
Pure speculation, but they allow access to the bolt head in case you need to remove the arm, while covering it up in normal operation so 1) the rear seats appear more finished and/or 2) a chilled in he rear doesn't scrape a shin on an exposed bolt head. Without the flap we'd either have an exposed bolt head or alternatively one buried underneath the carpet.

It covers the "bolt head" so you're not looking at a bare bolt. If the rubber bushing has to be changed you need to access that bolt to change it. I can just imagine how the Factory arrived at that solution after they discovered the bare bolt head.
