hi all, trying to find out what s u's i have? they are in a box that came w/ the car. it's a 68 sprite. 1275 engine.
it has a weber down draft and after reading , kelly's guy's post have gotten the itch to look into a swap back to the old carbs. on side of carb body is stamped A U C or G 870 and other is A U C or G 871. on float body is plate w/ A U D 266 i know that's the jet needle number . and according to moss that is poss. a 67 motor. serial no. is han9u74199g


is it worth the effort to rebuild and put back in ?

Does your engine have a boss on the thermostat housing to mount a smog pump and brass tubes on the carb bodys (not float bowls) for crankcase vents? If so I believe you may need different needles and dampner springs to make it run right. At least I had trouble with those carbs. Someone with more experience will hopefully chime in here.

The '68 would have had the SU's on it as originals but I didn't think Sprites had 1275's... could be all wet with that.

It'd be a worthwhile swap, IMO. The carbs are sequentially numbered so should be a "set". Needle charts are posted here someplace, too. Is the manifold with 'em?

1966 was the last year of the 1098 in Spridgets and it's my understanding that they introduced the MK IV Sprite/MK III Midget in mid model year, retaining the 1275 in various guises until the 1500 "Spitfidget"

To answer your question, the tag number you gave that was attached to the float body tells what these were off of. AUD 266 is listed as 1968 1275. Standard needle is AN

If you are looking to go back absolutely correct, it is important to know if it is a 2 wiper or 3 wiper 68. The 2 wiper 68's had an intake manifold particular to those 6 months only. 68 was the first year of the smog pump, but the first half of 68 also had the "flying saucer" pcv valve. The later half of 68, was just a smog pump and the intake off all smog pump cars is pretty much the same.
It was a 3 year ebay search to find the correct one for our early 68 model.
 
I too swapped back from a Weber to SUs. I recommend tearing down the SU (very simple carbs) cleaning, testing fitment of pistons throttle shaft wear (might need new ones or oversized ones or rebushed or something) and general clean up. Install and test.
I ended spending $0 on mine (although they probably should have new throttle shafts) and sold the Weber and intake for $275, which should provide enough coin to do whatever you want to the SUs if you end up having to do more work on them. Car runs great (better than the Weber overall).

it's a 2 wiper 68. i have the smog pump, intake manifold,
and " the flying saucer " pcv valve . and the matched set of HS2
of course all separated from each other

no brass fittings on the carbs , both float bowls have one each
 
Good carbs, but the front carb should have a cover that has an inlet and outlet fitting. If you have manifold and linkage it should be a simple matter to convert.

I'm sorry I don't know the part number. I just watched intakes on eBay, until I found a photo of an intake that had the two large tubes on it. The one just back of center, for the PCV valve, and the elbow up front for the gulp valve. Generally, the intakes have one tube or the other, rarely both.

It sounds like you are lucky enough to have all the correct bits. I had Joe Curto rebuild my carbs, and he did a great job on them. Again, no financial interest, just satisfied with his work.
