see you all ready know more about my car then i do. I'm a ford man to tell you the truth. I.m as green as they come when it comes to triumph.

ILL TELL YOU SOMETHING ELSE I'M MORE PASSIONATE ABOUT HIS CAR THEN I HAVE EVER BEEN ABOUT ANY OTHER IN MY LIFE AND I HAVE OWNED QUITE FEW!!!Didn't mean to yell just wanted to get my point across I'm serious about his car and I will probably irritate you guys about it until I'm done. lol

I had the Webers. They were just fine. The AFR was just about right. I have tri Strombergs now. I am fighting to get the AFR lean thru the total rpm range.

I am an old SBC (small block Chevy) guy and learning about the LBC (little British Car) also. I have learned that there are as many opinions out there as there are people. So decide what you want, get as much info as you can and then just do it. Oh, and have fun.

Click the link below and check out my old Vega.

I knew there was something that I liked about you, without even knowing about the Vega. We're both old 1/4 mile rats.

Cup, we all live vicariously through each another's restorations, so you'll not irritate us at all! You just have to promise to include lots of pictures in your posts along the way!

Aloha,

The carbs in the photo you posted of the engine are SUs. They can be cleaned up and rebuild relatively easily. The rebuild kits is probably a $150 item. Depending upon your budget, you may want to consider sticking with the original until you driven the car, then consider modifications for future changes. There are several shops that specialize in rebuilding SU carburetors and the service is probably in the $250 range for a set of two.

Thank you Dave I have already planned on rebuilding the "SU" carbs I have I was just wondering if it was worth the money to put the conversion kit on it? I'm used to holly and such when it comes to carbs all though i do have a carter on my dodge p/u lol.

Aloha,

I just sent you an e-mail with a booklet about SU carburetors attached. I think you find it help in explaining the simplicity of the SU.

No way!

Unless of course you've got $1000 just burning a hole in your pocket and nothing else to spend it on

Even on the track, the main advantage of Webers is that they are more adjustable (by changing various parts, which are also expensive) to suit highly modified motors.

On the street, they just waste fuel.

*OUCH*!! I'm gettin' 30 MPG in th' Alfa 1750 on a set of DCOE's just now, Randall!

...but I ~have~ put "restrictions" on my driving style of late: 4K rev limit, anticipating traffic lights, "coasting" down long grades, etc. Oh, and speed limit adherence. Tho that last has me feelin' like a traffic cone more often than not.

"Ordinarily" it returns low 20's.

Th MGB gets 30+ on a single DCOE, the Elans are *capable* of over 40 (but not often, with me at th' helm)!

But there's NO reason to go find Weber replacement for a good set of SU's for a TR-3, IMO.

Those Skinners Union carburators will do just fine on that classic, and very easy to repair and adjust.

Personally, I like to keep things original and simple. My engine has larger liners and pistons and a gas-flowed head and it runs great on the SUs.
May be best to get the car on the road and see how it goes before you start modifying it.
