I posted awhile back and said that I had finished my SU6's for my 60 TR. Someone mentioned pictures so I think I know how to do this so here goes.

Gosh, hadn't thought about a heat shield. Not seen any on the TR-3's that I have seen. Was it a factory, or dealer option?
I see them on ebay all of the time.

Tinkerman,

Carb heat shield a recent modern add on. Not original. I never seemed to need one on my 3. TR6 models seem to benefit by it. I did install an electric fan to aid in the radiator cooling process though. It really helps on those 90 degree days when you are stuck in line at the toll booth. Never had a cooling problem while underway or this time of year.

Probably only an issue depending on location. In Az summers after sitting for awhile (parked) I've experienced fuel percolation and think a shield backed with header wrap would fix that.

Good point! I forgot how hot it gets in Arizona. I guess it would depend on how hot it gets in your part of Tennesee Tinkerman.

Here's a photo of Joe Alexander's Heat Shield, available from TRF or Moss. It seems to me that the car ran better this summer w/ it on, but I'd done a lot of other things to it as well, so who knows.... It is a very well-made piece.
As you can see, my new K&Ns are a little close, even with new motor mounts, so I'll be getting wedge-shaped K&Ns in the future...

Kevin,
I modified the same K&N front filter on my 3. I simply took a dremel and cut about a 1/4 in deep in three places in the offending area then straightened, snipped some edging off the element lip and bent the whole deal inwards. I trimmed a bit of rubber from the filter element. The unit still seals tight and does not interfere with the wheel well. Looks good too and will save you the cost of another expensive set of filters.

Not nearly as hot as it gets in Arizona Harry. Thats why I moved to Tennessee. That and the fact that my ex lives in Texas /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

I contacted Goodparts to see if he could convince Joe to make the heat shield for the triple setup. Said he would look into it but never heard back. Wish I were a good enough tinsmith to do the work myself. I think it would be a worthwhile project for some of you layout artists. It would have to be cut on an individual basis because no two triple manifolds are exactly alike because of the rubber hose water and vacuum lines.
