carbs again, not a problem but a question

Don't be tuning them unless it's ran for about ten minutes first. I had to use choke this morning and it still hesitated before it was warmed up fully. That's just a manual choke thing, it's cold out.

OK Baz, I remember, I usually do the quick things like that as soon as I get home. But I want to get home remove the plugs to check color before I touch the carbs, when fully warm it is running great. If color is still light tan in a day or 3 then I will make richer (1 flat)to see if it makes a difference. If they are starting to get dark I will leave alone and know it is a cold weather and choke thing like you said. Next monday is is supposed to be about 35 degrees at night so it will be a good test....

Yeah, if it's running great when warm, that's what it's supposed to do, I've got a feeling your plugs will be OK.
Mine were really sooty earlier this year till I tuned the carbs and they've behaved since. Don't buy new (used) ones until you are absolutley sure that there is something wrong with the ones you have becasue you'll have to tune the new ones when you get them anyway. Air filters OK?

"""""""If color is still light tan in a day or 3 """""

spark plugs are extremely hard to read when using unleaded fuel and usually take a long time to color.

There should be a noted abcence of coloration when the motor is happy...light tan in 3 days and the motor might be quite rich....but that depends if you have been idling or running down the freeway for an hour. So you might look to drivability rather than plug coloration when you set the jets.

Get everything else right first.....jet level should be the same in both carbs and the throttle butterflies at the same position in each carb after snugging manifold and carb flange to manifold bolts down with the engine up to temp.
