Carb size for a 3.5 V-8?

There is a thread over on the Triumph forum about changing out the dual Z-S carbs on a TR8. One of the Web sites I have used for TR8 and Buick V-8 parts suggested that a 360 cfm 4-barrel is about all the 3.5-liter can handle. And it should get slightly better mileage than a 500.

Does anyone on the BCF have a TR8, TR7 clone, or an MGB V-8 conversion with a 360? How does it perform and what kind of mileage does it get? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
 
That sounds right to me. We were amazed by the street racers using a 500 on a small block and then they complained about take off. Unless the V8 is modified I would stay with the 350. Better performance on the street and definately better fuel economy. I would recommend vacume operated secondaries if they are available. Just for note, our 350 (then we switched to a 283) used TWO 660 Hollys. We were heavily modified, shifted the 350 at 9000 and the 283 at 10,000.

There are two standard 4 bbl carbs of choice for the BOP 215/3.5L Rover crowd. The more readily available is the Holley 390 CFM List# 8007. It has vacuum secondaries. It requires an adapter to bolt to the stock 215 intake manifold.
The other, which is a little harder to come by, is the Carter 400 AFB. This one bolts straight onto the stock 215 intake manifold and is a better design. Apparently the Holley can leak fuel.
