carb info?

The BE carb bodies are stamped AUC 6010L. What does that tell me? The manifold has spacers ala HS-2's. Should I lose those? It appears the studs are longer than they would be without the spacers. The carbs are leaking around those spacers. I can't make the leaks stop. Did the former owner do something I should undo?

There should not be any leaks there, there should also be three gaskets on each carb, one between the heatshield and the intake, then another between the heatshield and the spacer, then the third gasket between the spacer and the carb. The only thing I could think that would make fuel leak there is too much float level, worn metering needle or the PO block off the vents and the carbs are pressurizing, the vents on the float bowl lids are open to atmosphere correct?

Hap. My exploded pictures (Moss parts catalog) of the 1" 1/8 H-1 carbs don't show any spacers. My carbs have them. The picture of the HS-2's show the spacers. Should there even be any in there? If they belong in there do I seal them with gasket cement and wha kind. The stuff I tried to use turned to snot when the gas hit them. Needles are new. What purpose do the gaskets serve if not to prevent fuel from leaking? Is the fuel atomized by the time it gets to those gaskets? As to the float bowl vents; how can I test those to see if they are open? There is no obvious blockage when the lids are loose from the bowls. By the way, thanks for offering up your help. I'm going a little bit crazy with this problem. R

Vacuum leaks and dirt. Gaskets needed, period, and NO sealer. Any gas there indicates an internal high fuel level, one would think without actually seeing the problem.

AH Spares lists two spacers, one for a 948, the other for a 1098/1275

TOC. Thanks for the thread reference. There is a lot to look at and the carb shot is great. I've taken a break from mine but with the info I've gotten back I'm ready to tackle this thing again. Someone said the chimps at the local zoo could rebuild SU's. I may have to ask them to help. R

It's true and FWIW if you take apart and reassemble an SU enough times you will eventually end up with two.

Guys with big Healeys can end up with three, if they're careful.

BTW, old memory here, but on them H-1's, if you run no spacer AND a heat shield, I think there is a problem with the linkage connectors and hardware hitting said heat shield.

I've seen a 4.2L E-Type owner or two end up with three as well.
