An Audi shouldn't rust. Galvanized steel. Wisconsin has the same degree of salt and rust killed my last BMW, a '92 5-series wagon, but my older son's Audi, a '93, has no rust at all, nor does my younger son's '03. VW Passat is a good choice, as is a Jetta, wagons or sedans.
 
I have the 2007 Kia Optima lx sport.Fantastic car.Great mileage.Only problemwas the front brakes failing at 24000 miles.Do not believe the bumper to bumper warranty as brakes were not included.I went to the Canadain head office and only got the standard reply that brakes do not come under warranty.Other than that we enjoy the car and no problems other than the brakes.My wife is very comfortable driving it.As to the Kia Soul.My son's father in law was a partner in a Kia dealership.I actually drove the prototype around the parking lot.It was a bit rough as not really finished.The new ones are really neat.
 
Chuck - the brakes were *not* included in the Kia warranty?

That's surprising. I know the '02 M3 sprint car we had used some factory super PITA rubber type coating as well as the whole car dipped in this super paint stuff. It was a major pain to remove or weld on. I was impressed with the level of care they went to keep them from rusting. There did seem to be any way in past this stuff. I've never heard about Audi galvanizing things. I know Ford did once many years ago but paint didn't adhere well to it. Supposed to go w/ one of the local kids today to pick out a car. She wants a Jetta.
 
And the winner is..... 2010 Kia Soul. 44k km (21k miles) lots of warranty left, loaded, sunroof, bluetooth, cruise etc. etc. looks good, drives good, as part of my research I did some mileage comparisons and it projects a gas saving of $6500 over 5 years compared to a small SUV and, a very good price. (They also took the Mazda - woo hoo) Used a new bargaining technique. We were about $800 apart on price, pulled out the chequebook and wrote a cheque for the price I wanted to pay. Told them they could cash it or tear it up - their choice. Guess what they chose? I'm very happy. Thanks all for your input! I love this place!
