Car Status and Powder Coating a Top Frame...

Well the car does not run as of yet... I have been in Mexico Rooster fishing and caught a nice 50# one! I'm hoping for Saturday.. I did spin up the oil pressure and am fighting a couple of water leaks... Still need a few electricals sorted out... Oh well...

Question... I'm now getting ready to tackle the top as it did not have one when I bought it but it does have a frame.. Has anyone had the frame powder coated or should I just take to a shop and have it sand blasted and painted?

I need to get this done soon as I have friends that own a canvas shop and they are sailing away on a two year trip the end of Feb. I would really like them to do the job as they do excellent work..

The saga continues...

Blast and paint it now, get the top fitted, THEN you can have it powder coated at leasure some time 'down the road'.

BTW: nice fish. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Yooz guys that live so far inland that the closest you will ever get to blue-water fishing will be a Mrs. Paul's fish stick. Ling is my favorite, Roy.

I had my frame blasted and painted. Wish I had a better finish, maybe powder coating. It takes a lot of wear-and-tear and is subject to a bunch of friction and moisture. Jet-Hot coating would be nice...kinda bling, though.

Pullet indeed....

I thought they (JetHot) had a blue that wasn't too obnoxious.

If my memory serves me, the frame on the TR3 soft top is exposed when retracted, not covered with the canvas. Or was that my TR2? At any rate, might clash with the red of Capt. Roy's paint. I was thinking more like the muted silver-chrome. Just me.

Powder coating will require blasting off any coating on the surfaces, so why not do it correctly from the beginning and be done once and for all? I vote for P/C from the beginning.

And the powder comes in colors as well, so a good shop can do what ever color you want.

I always thought you used a chicken to catch a Rooster?

A late TR3 can have a 'correct' black frame if that's what you're after. I'd like the PC but don't know how, or if, the PC guys can match my body color red.

Hi Capt Roy,

Yes, I had the "hoodsticks" on my TR4 powdercoated years ago. They look great and work fine, although I've since changed to a hard top so all the soft top kit is now removed.

I didn't even disassemble the hoodsticks beyond removing all the webbing, just sent the entire assembly (along with a large batch of other stuff, including the large headed mounting screws for the hoodsticks to have their caps PCed to match) and let the shop go at it.

They sandblasted and then coated very nicely. I did change the color from the original off-white TR4 used, to semi gloss black. (Also changed the webbing from off white to black).

Thanks guys... I'm called my power coater and I'm going to take it over tomorrow morning... Best to do it right the first time...

Maybe this car will run aggain tomorrow..

Smart move and he should be able to match your red. Take a painted piece along to compare. They have color chips just like the paint shops.
