Car Project Up-date

Car Project Update

Aside from the aforementioned hub project, I recently replaced the oil pump and also installed an aluminum sump. Both purchased from AH Spares. I tried to get the pump in the US, but the usual suspects were totally out of stock, so ordered across the pond. Turned out I saved a bundle, too, even after shipping etc.

Oil pressure is now at spec both hot and cold. I'm real happy about that. With the sump off, I inspected the inside of the engine and found everything to be real nice. Pulled a bearing cap and the shells look new.

Still shaking the car down before getting out of town too much.

I know what you mean. It takes me about a year to fully trust an unknown car.

Brian,
Were used pleased with the AH spares aluminum sump? I have heard that some require some modifications to the pump. Did yours or was it simply a bolt-on?

The sump bolted right on. All the holes seemed very will placed. A set of instructions were included, which stated that about a quarter inch of the oil intake pipe inside the screen needed to be trimmed off and new slots cut into the side. No problem. It is soft aluminum. Also, the instructions said to remove the oil pressure overflow tube and the main bearing drain tube. Done.

Sump went right on. But it is wise to give it a good cleaning first, as I did. They are rather messy from the factory.
