Car Phone Salesman

That is some performance. And some nerve taking opera to "Idol". Definitely high in "WOW" factor. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

I wasn't expecting that.
I'll be looking for that CD very soon, maybe a duet with Charlotte Church would sound great.

Yeah Steve, as we're walking from the mines to the rugby, /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif however, I'm not sure where we went wrong with Tom Jones.
My singing days are limited to vernacular these days.
I had the missus listen to this guy, then played a Pavarotti; she couldn't tell the difference.
Thanks for the heads up on that guy Basil....

That guy is unbelieveable. Imaging how good he will be with voice coaches and proper guidance! Just boggles the mind.

Barry, I can see why Tom Jones is the black sheep..... Heck, even Harry Secombe was a decent tenor! Now, if all the women looked like Catherine Zeta Jones......

There's no shortage of sheep Steve....
I'd put Shirley Bassey (in her 'day') on a par with CZJ, and a better singer.
This site (I apologise for the klingon-esque language) has Bryn Terfyl, another Welsh opera star singing with Dame Shirley along with Dafydd Iwan and other unknown Welsh good'uns. Aled Jones, Charlotte Church and the Treorchy Choir to name a few.

I just played these clips for my wife and she said she will be buying his first CD!

I've never been much of an opera fan so I can't be much of a critic from that respect. (I heard that the aficionados are somewhat critical of his performance.) But I can certainly tell when something gives me goose bumps and brings tears to my eyes. Like Simon said - there's just something about him that makes you share in his performance.

Same reaction I had to Bianca Ryan when I saw her performance.

Yes, I'm the same way. I'm definitly not an opera fan, but there was something remarkable about his performance. Maybe it was the unassuming way he came out on stage and appeared to be just some joe from a Cell Phone store and then this near perfect pitch singing started comeing out of him. As for "aficionados" - well, they can have their opinions, but I'll bet that guy is going to win - and going to be famous. Imagine what he could do if he had some formal training!

/bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/iagree.gif Jim Nabors kinda had that same effect on me the first time I heard him sing. Not my kind of music, but IMPRESSIVE!!!

Unbelievable!!! That sure caught me by surprise. So much for cell phones.

I've a feeling the world will be seeing a lot of Paul Potts in the future. I'd travel 1000 miles to see him and I don't even like Opera!
